6th Grade Sports
What 6th grade sports are offered at Northwood and when do they occur?
- Cross Country - September (starts on the first day of school)
- Girls Volleyball - Start of October
- Wrestling - End of October
- Track - After Spring Break
- Basketball - Beginning of May
What do I have to do to have my student-athlete ready to participate?
- Register through FinalForms on our athletics website. Please only open 1 account. This account will be used through 8th grade and into high school. You can also have multiple students in 1 account, so add your student to an account that you have for your high schooler if that applies. When registering, be sure to use your student's school email address when applicable.
- Please do not register your athlete for every sport. Stick to what you know and you can always add a sport later in the year by logging back in and clicking the box for that sport.
- Provide an updated physical (good for 2 years).
- Complete all of the required school registration information, including health forms and records.
- Pay the required fees. We currently have a one-time fee of $50 ($35 participation + $15 ASB) that is good for the entire school year.
What if my athlete is enrolled in an alternative school setting?
Go through the same process as listed above and make sure to check the box for "Northwood" whenever you are asked where your student is participating. Do not choose a different school of choice or the alternative school where they attend.
What do they need on the first day?
The basics: shorts, t-shirt (sweatshirt), athletic shoes, and a water bottle that won't spill
What is the practice and game schedule? How long is the season?
-
Practices are after school from 2:30-4:45pm on Monday through Thursday for the first week and every day during the season where a game/meet is not scheduled. Coaches will provide a practice schedule after the first week.
-
Games & meets will start during the second week between 3:30-5:15pm depending on their location. You can find the game/meet schedule on our athletics website.
How do they get home?
-
Please pick up athletes in front of the school promptly after practices/games/meets or register them for the activity bus on our district transportation website. Activity buses run Monday-Thursday and pick athletes up at 5:00pm. They are usually used on practice nights only and athletes will need a ride after games or meets. Activity buses get your athletes near your home but do not drop off at the same bus stop as their regular route bus. Check out our transportation website for specific details.
-
An athlete can only ride home from an away event with someone other than their parent/guardian if the Private Transportation Form has been signed in FinalForms. Athletes and parents should also communicate with coaches prior to the start of the event.
How long is the season?
- All 6th grade seasons are 4 weeks. Wrestling is the exception and athletes participate with 7th and 8th graders for the entire 7-8 week season.
